A couple of weeks ago I popped my head in at The Botanical Bar in Longmarket Street for a quick drink. It wasn’t a planned visit, my friend and I were simply walking past en route to La Parada in Bree St, but after getting a glance of it from the street, we knew we needed to make a little pit stop.
A quick Facebook stalk revealed that they opened their doors back in December and that they spent months and months before opening researching (and experimenting with) all kinds of indigenous botanicals. Now their shelves are filled with hundreds of bottles filled with all kinds of botanical infusions which they refer to as their “flavour library”.
Under their speciality drinks options you’ll find a range of botanical-infused cocktails with names that pay homage to some of the awesome South African spots they visited along the way:

I had decided to stick to wine for the evening (in a weak attempt to minimise my hangover the next day), so didn’t end up trying one of these… but I’m definitely going back for The West Coast

Loved these rose gold cocktail strainers… I have no desire to become a cocktail queen at home, but I just really wanted one of my own… #ILoveShinyThings
I’ll definitely be heading back for a longer visit. I have to try a cocktail (or two or three) and maybe even some items from that food menu.
The Botanical Bar is open Tuesday to Thursday from 4pm to midnight and Friday & Saturday from 4pm to 01:30am (closed Sundays & Mondays) & you’ll find them at 160 Longmarket Street, Cape Town.
